I’ve been slowly going through the Pitchfork 500 and have added quite a lot of cool mp3s to my collection and some music history knowledge. Anyway my favourites I’ve discovered/re-discovered:
“The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel / Grandmaster Flash” – Some brilliant sample and scratch work. Easily the funkiest thing I’ve posted on this blog (even more than the next track).
“Da Funk / Daft Punk” – Never found these guys as brilliant as everyone says, but this track is slick.
“Ca plane pour moi / Plastic Bertrand” – Another crazy dance track, cheesy and boring, but somehow amazing.
“Postcards from Italy / Beirut” – I’ve only heard about this guy because of his new album, but this convinced me to go out and buy his debut straight away. Acoustic, quirky and stunningly beautiful .
“C Is The Heavenly Option / Heavenly” – A cool twee track from the 90s.

Nice site design!
Anyway, you might like this, I’m going through the whole list track-by-track. It’s amazing hearing some songs again, like Don’t Fear The Reaper or Mr Blue Sky, and also being able to write about 1000 words on how great Marquee Moon is. I’ve only done about 50 tracks so far….
